Christian Melis is an environmental specialist with almost 20 years of international managerial experience, mainly acquired in the Western Balkans and Central Asia in the fields of environmental governance and sustainable development, working with international organizations, government authorities and the private sector. In his current position as Environmental Governance Officer at the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) in Vienna, he is responsible for planning, management and monitoring complex multi-partners projects supporting the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements, as well as coordinating the activities of the Aarhus Centres network, consisting of over 50 entities aimed at facilitating the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the countries of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Previously, he was appointed as Water and Energy Policy Adviser at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. Christian’s professional experience includes the role of Team Leader / Climate Change Expert for an EU-funded project supporting GHG monitoring and reporting in Turkey. He also spent 7 years as Resident Coordinator and Programme Manager of the environmental cooperation initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Environment in the Western Balkan and Mediterranean region (Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Libya).
