Dr Sofia Galani is an Assistant Professor at the Panteion University and a Scientific Advisor to the Hellenic Parliament. She holds a PhD in Public International Law and an LLM from the University of Bristol and an LLB from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer (2021) and a Lecturer (2015-2020) at the University of Bristol Law School. Her research interests lie in the international law of the sea, maritime security and human rights and she has published in these areas of law. She has taught international law in Greece and abroad and has lectured on professional training courses. Sofia is one of the principal contributors to the UNODC Maritime Crime: A Manual for Criminal Justice Practitioners and a consultant to the UNODC Maritime Crime Programme. She sits at the Non-Executive Board of Advisors of the UK-based charity Human Rights at Sea and is one of the principal authors of the Geneva Declaration of Human Rights at Sea.
